It’s not so relevant these days since we rarely need to support those old browsers with our new builds. It also smoothed over a lot of browser compatibility issues that were a real pain to deal with 5-10 years ago. My “Cart Before the Horse” Storyįor anyone who doesn’t know, jQuery is a library that makes working with the DOM (the document object model) in Javascript easier. Here’s what I ended up doing and how it worked out for me. I had to decide if I should learn vanilla Javascript or jQuery. When I was getting started in web development, front-end frameworks didn’t have the same mindshare they do now, but I did have to make a similar decision. Maybe it’s good to have some knowledge of that foundation before you try to learn something that’s built on top of that. On the other hand, Javascript is the foundation of all of these frameworks. If you want to start building robust apps, it would make sense to cut to the chase and learn the framework. On one hand, robust applications are often built using front-end frameworks.
